NWTHC Mini-Hunt News 2003-10-31 |
Man, it just doesn't get any better than this. The weather couldn't have been any better. If you missed this hunt, you missed another great one. Gordon and Mel waited until the last minute and still managed to get it all together. Shows what experience will do for you.
There were 23 men and 7 women signed up for the hunts, with 6 kids added in for good measure. There were about 70 targets planted for each person, so the ladies had a distinct advantage. Gordon let the ladies hunt by themselves for the first part of the main hunt, but after 45 minutes or so, he let the men claimjump into their hunt. The women are pretty good though and there weren't many targets left for us guys.
Next, the kids showed us what they were made of. There were two divisions -- PeeWees and Juniors. Stephanie Burris was the top dog in the Peewees with Damian Hurt close behind. In the Juniors, AJ Burns came out on top. Chad Coston came in second followed by Kyle Hurt and Daniel Burns. They had some great prizes laid out for exchange for their tokens!!
Mel put on the last hunt and it was for fun and bragging rights. Mel had us split into 4 teams and ran the hunt like a relay race. He had 5 spots marked out in the hunt. Each spot had coins matching the spot's number planted around it along with the dreaded black coins. You had to find a coin number 1, then 2, then 3, etc. If you got a black coin, it was back to the start for you. No one wanted to be on our team, bcause we had 3 kids and 2 of them had kiddie detectors. Well, we showed them! Our team was done and had time for good break before any other tean finished --- BRAG, BRAG, BRAG. We were all laughing at John and his 3 or 4 black pennies, until Glen came along. I don't think he found anything except black pennies!! I think Eric has found his alter ego!
Gordon made us think that the finders of some big silver tokens won the Chairman's hunt. Michelle and ?(middle-aged moment) were really worried. John Smith and Sandy were the real lucky ones. They found gold tokens and won the honor of hosting us next Spring!
Well, I think we suckered (um, I mean convinced) Lucky to be the chairman for the hunt next summer. Actually, I think its going to be a three man committee. Lucky, Clay and I have decided to go for it. If you really want to run it though, we'd still be interested. We have actually got a lot of the preliminary stuff out of the way. We'll be calling on you to help us out.
One way you could help is to volunteer to run one of the individual hunts. There is not much to it and we could use your help. Please talk to one of us if you are interested.
