    GPAA Gold Show Spokane
    2006-05-17

On May 6, 2006 the Gold Prospecting Association of America came to Spokane for the first time since 1998. On opening morning venders began arriving at the Interstate Fairgrounds at 8:30am to be ready for the 10am opening. There were people standing in line at that time waiting to be part of the first 100 attendees to enter and receive a free vial for gold.

When the doors opened at 10am, it was a constant buzz of activity until closing at 5pm. All the venders were busily tending to the 1,212 people who came through the doors, each one answering a vast array questions about prospecting equipment and metal detectors. Many people also wanted information on the best places to detect and prospect, as well as all the regulations they need to be aware of.

There were dealers and manufacturers from Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Washington. Avid detectors and prospectors came from Canada, Montana, Idaho, and Washington, and Oregon. One couple came all the way from Vancouver, BC to attend the show. Along with the sales, and information available at the show, there was a variety of raffles, door prizes, and free gifts from the venders.
Consessions were available, although the big crowd far surpassed the amount of food that was available for the day.
Sunday?s show had a much smaller crowd. With only 450 people coming through the doors, it was a little slower pace, and allowed everyone, even some of the venders to wander around and look at all the new equipment that was being introduced.

What a great weekend for Spokane. If you missed it this year, be planning for the next one. Whether you are just beginning, have always been interested in detecting and prospecting, or have been doing it for years, there will be something for everyone.
